Arjan Schalken
Arjan Schalken

Arjan Schalken is Program Manager UKBsis at UKB, the network of Dutch University Libraries and the Royal Library. His work focusses on the realization and implementation of sustainable Open Access strategies for the Dutch consortium. Arjan advises and supports UKB in negotiating and managing Publish & Read agreements and he is also national project manager for implementing consortium agreements with full Open Access publishers.  As project manager 'You Share, We take Care', Arjan helped universities to implement article 25fa of the Dutch Copyright Law, supporting researchers to share their research publications in the institutional repositories more easily. Arjan works as UKB Program Manager since 2020. From 2017 – 2020 he was deputy director of the Free University

 Amsterdam Library.  

 


Per Pippin Aspaas
Per Pippin Aspaas

Per Pippin Aspaas holds a PhD in history of science and is an active researcher in fields such as Latin philology and early-modern intellectual history. Since 2009, he has been working at the University Library of University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway (UiT), where he is now the head of a team for Research and Publishing Support. UiT’s library runs several peer-reviewed diamond OA journals as well as an institutional repository for green open access documents (articles, MA and PhD theses, reports). Aspaas is part of UiT’s Council for Research Strategy. In this capacity, he facilitated the process leading to UiT adopting its institutional Rights Retention Policy. This policy ensures that all publications from UiT-affiliated scholars since 2022 can be shared in green open access. Open Science Talk, an English-language podcast series providing insight into open science projects in Norway and the wider world, is hosted by Aspaas.

 


Chris Bennett
Chris Bennett

Chris is Commercial Director at Cambridge University Press, having just completed eleven years at the renowned education and research publisher. Before that, he held a variety of roles at Oxford University Press. Chris believes passionately that quality publishing continues to inspire, is relevant and should drive innovation for the benefit of learners, instructors and researchers alike. He’s a leading advocate for rapid (yet sustainable!) model change in open research and online learning, the uptake of adaptive technologies and the use of data science to inform student and researcher success. When not furthering these ambitions, Chris may often be found in his engineering workshop, somewhere in or under his classic Land Rover.  

 

 


David Cuartielles
David Cuartielles

David Cuartielles is head of the Interaction Design Masters programme at Malmo University, as well as one of the founders of the Arduino platform, which is considered one of the originators of the contemporary open hardware movement. David is committed to the creation of open knowledge whether electronics, software, content, or datasets. He is currently working in experimenting with recyclable electronics as part of the EU project DESIRE4EU.

Jenny is a librarian with a Master of Laws working at Malmö University Library. She has long standing experience from research libraries and research support activities. Jenny mainly works with publishing and copyright and has a great knowledge in matters related to the scientific and scholarly publishing landscape. Jenny was involved in starting the university's publishing house, Malmö university press, and has recently looked into issues surrounding institutional rights retention strategies.
